Campervan & Motorhome Logistics

Essential practical rules for navigating the South of France.

1. Navigating Narrow Roads

Provence is famous for ancient, hilltop villages (especially in the Luberon). Do not attempt to drive a large Class A motorhome into village centers. Always park at designated "Parking Relais" (P+R) or edge-of-town motorhome aires.

2. Wild Camping Laws

Wild camping (camping sauvage) is strictly regulated. It is completely prohibited in national parks (like the Calanques), regional nature parks (like Sainte-Victoire), and near classified historical monuments. Stick to official campsites or municipal aires.

3. Managing Heat & Water

Summer in Provence routinely hits 35°C (95°F). You must have a reliable strategy for water refills. Municipal service points (bornes) require tokens (jetons), usually bought at local tourist offices or bakeries. Book shady pitches months in advance.

4. Aix-en-Provence P+R

If you are visiting Aix for the day, use the Krypton or Plan d'Aillane Park & Ride facilities. Some have height restrictions, so verify your vehicle height. These facilities offer cheap parking and a direct shuttle bus to the historic center.
